North Carolina insurance licensing exam prep

Study for North Carolina's Life and Accident & Health exams against NC DOI's real blueprints.

North Carolina has no combined Life-and-Health exam: Life Agent (exam code 01) and Accident and Health or Sickness Agent (exam code 02) are two entirely separate Pearson VUE exams, each with its own content outline. LicensePath maps every category of both, so your practice time goes toward what's actually weighted most on exam day, for whichever line (or both) you're pursuing.

Exam snapshot

What the real North Carolina exams look like.

60 Total questions per exam (55 scored + 5 unscored pretest), 75-minute time limit; same shape for both Life and A&H
Pearson VUE Official testing vendor for the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NC DOI)
804 North Carolina practice questions drafted in our content bank, currently in review: our largest state bank outside Texas
Exam weight by area, both exams combined
110 scored Qs
  • Life & annuity content: 37% (41 of 110 combined)
  • Health insurance content: 37% (41 of 110 combined)
  • North Carolina statutes & regulations: 25% (28 of 110 combined)

This is the real, fixed weighting from the NC DOI/Pearson VUE content outlines for both the Life and Accident & Health exams, combined.

Blueprint categories

Two separate exams, two separate real blueprints.

Neither North Carolina outline uses Texas's 9-category template: each is its own self-contained outline giving question counts, not percentages, per topic. LicensePath models each exam exactly as NC DOI and Pearson VUE publish it, rather than forcing a shared shape onto two genuinely different exams.

Life Agent (exam code 01)

55 scored questions
  1. Life & Annuity Product Knowledge41 of 55
  2. North Carolina Statutes & Regulations14 of 55

Accident & Health or Sickness Agent (exam code 02)

55 scored questions
  1. Health: Types of Policies22 of 55
  2. Health: Policy Provisions11 of 55
  3. Other Health Insurance Concepts8 of 55
  4. North Carolina Statutes & Regulations (A&H)14 of 55

Question counts are each category's real share of the 55-scored-question total, per Pearson VUE's official North Carolina Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook #123400. The two exams' state-law sections overlap substantially but aren't identical: North Carolina's Life outline covers replacement and viatical-settlement rules the A&H outline doesn't, and vice versa for group health continuation. So LicensePath tracks them as distinct categories rather than treating one as a stand-in for the other.

Why sourcing matters

Built from North Carolina General Statutes and Pearson VUE's own materials, not guesses.

Every North Carolina question in LicensePath is sourced from North Carolina General Statutes Chapter 58 (and Chapter 14 where relevant) or North Carolina Administrative Code Title 11, fetched directly from ncleg.gov and the state's own rules database, then cross-checked against Pearson VUE's official candidate handbook before it's approved for release.

Curious how state exam blueprints are built, or why every practice question carries a citation? Two short guides cover both: what's actually on your state's insurance exam and why we cite every practice question.
